Mis-match with internet connection and computer access data

Following the recent census, the latest figures showing the number of homes with access to the internet is now available.
However the number of homes in Porirua City with dependent children without a computer is considerably more than the figures indicate.
We estimate that these figures could be three times higher than those shown.
This means that up to 3,000 homes in Porirua City do not have a computer and approximately 8,000-10,000 children are missing out on real educational opportunities. It also means that these children are not learning the necessary IT skills that operating a computer brings to their present and future educational and employment opportunities.
